A DIGITAL COMMUNITY IN ST. HELEN’S

The digital economy is growing fast – in fact, Britain will need 2.287 million digitally skilled workers by 2020 to meet the demand. That’s why O2 embarked on an ambitious project called Digital Communities, which aimed to show how connectivity can help communities across the country to prosper.

fst worked with O2 to roll out the campaign, which was piloted in St. Helen’s due to its low adoption of digital technologies and for its location outside of London. But how do you inspire a whole town to take part?

fst’s approach: to create a friendly, approachable campaign called “Hello St. Helens”, which reached people both online and offline in an integrated mixture of digital technology and experiential campaigns.

It’s an approach that worked. We helped O2 to reach over 42,000 people, improving the digital engagement of the town by 15% and moving St. Helens up 17 places in the Digital High Street Index. O2 also estimates that the campaign will help to boost the local economy by £46.3 million by 2020.

IN THEIR TIME HERE, O2 HAS HELPED TO DEMONSTRATE AMBITION TO CREATE A MODERN AND CONNECTED ST HELENS.
